Drop
I experimented with unconventional materials such as water and ice with the aim to explore the physics of refraction.
Lenses have a specific behaviour, convex lenses focus and concave lenses diffuse light. By testing and making lenses out of water and ice, I discovered a phenomenon where the same convex lenses can focus and diffuse light depending on the state of the water.
To enable easy exchanging of different lens shapes I tested different options.
Using a simple twisting movement, the user-friendly mechanism was developed. The lenses are modelled using Rhinoceros3D software.
Drop provides different experiences. The viewer can see the shift from a focused to a diffused light while the ice is melting. It makes extraordinary and calm atmosphere.
